FAQs about Somatic Sexology

MIND • BODY • SPIRIT

The most frequent question I get asked is ~ “What exactly is it that you do?” Well, that depends on how you feel on any given day or at any given moment. Imagine a range of possible sensations, from numbness or pain ~ all the way to fully embodied orgasmic mastery ~ and then every feeling in between. Each session, your body will move between various levels ~ and this is by no means a linear process. I listen to and track your body’s awareness and sensation every moment, assuring your complete focus and sensory engagement similar to a meditation practice ~ and continually guiding you back to the source. Deep honouring your erotic self allows authentic self-expression to empower and liberate you.

What is Somatic Sexology/Sexological Bodywork? Sexological Bodywork is somatic, erotic education that assists individuals, couples and groups to deepen their experience of embodiment. Certified Sexological Bodyworkers are trained sexologists whose certification is approved by the State of California. We offer experiential learning opportunities that consciously access profound ecstatic and erotic states. Our teaching involves a variety of educational modalities, including breathwork, touch, conscious movement, erotic massage, pelvic release bodywork, scar tissue remediation, and Orgasmic Yoga coaching.

One of the somatic realms that Sexological Bodyworkers introduce to our clients is a state of arousal that is free of fantasy, unfinished emotional business, religious dogma, cultural caveats and habitual sexual behaviours. In this meditative state, an individual becomes aware of the body as a source of wisdom and freedom. One of the ways to access this fertile state is by actively receiving a Taoist Erotic Massage. Helping others access and use various erotic states is foundational to the education we offer.

A crucial part of the education that Somatic Sexology offer clients are the value of intentions and boundaries. While I acknowledge the human longing for connection, I recognize the importance of professional distance. I am conscious and make my clients aware that while we share authentic intimacy, sexological bodywork sessions will not fulfill their desires for sexual connection. The focus of our sessions is on my client’s experience within their own body. Sexological Bodyworkers do not act as surrogate partners. I am always fully clothed, and the touching in our sessions is uni-directional. I request my clients bring their partners when they wish to learn interpersonal erotic skills.

Sexological Bodyworkers are committed to complementing and extending the effectiveness of services offered by psychotherapists and other health care professionals. I value working in close partnership with these professionals but will do so only with your approval.

What is a Somatic Sexologist/Sexological Bodyworker? We are somatic, erotic educators, assisting individuals, couples and groups to deepen their experience of embodiment. We are trained sexologists whose certification is approved by the State of California. We offer experiential learning opportunities that consciously access profound ecstatic and erotic states. Sexological Bodyworkers act as resources more than teachers for motivated individuals who wish to explore what is erotically possible. Many sexological bodyworkers specialize in guiding individuals, couples and groups into the mystical and shamanic aspects of human sexuality. Although we come from many spiritual and religious traditions, we all acknowledge the spiritual dimensions of sexuality.

We also offer assistance to adult individuals who have experienced inadequate sexual education and instruction in self-care from family, religion, school, birth and healthcare professionals. Some people seek us out because sexual shame has damaged their self-image, interfered with relationships, or even thwarted their ability to love. We consider pleasure a powerful and valuable form of education. Sexological Bodyworkers believe that sexual health and erotic education are basic human rights.
